Room Full of Owls support The Brutes Chorus at the Source Cafe

On Thursday 18th and Friday 19th March

Two gigs, two cities, and one main event Carnival Moon presents much gutter gospel and snake-hipped mojo, courtesy of The Brute Chorus.
Thursday’s gig at Carlisle’s Source Café features guests Room Full Of Owls and I Am Spartacus, plus the Lambhuna boys on the wheels of steel. Friday sees O'Messy Life and Rob Heron join the bill at the Cumberland Arms in Newcastle. Both will be things of wonder!

The Brute Chorus
www.myspace.com/thebrutechorus
The Brute Chorus, comprised of West Country-vicar’s son James Steel (Guitars, Vocals), Cumbria’s Nick Foots (multi-instrumentalist & vocals) and Matthew Day (drums & percussion son of a Quaker morris man) – who both grew up in the shadow of Sellafield - and Dave Ferrett (bass) Essex who came to London from the four corners of the land to pursue their interests at college in Greenwich.

They’ve been combining garage, blues and folk music with a scatology of Biblical stories, nursery rhymes and fairy tales since March. They’ve been taking it to the people with sets at The Secret Garden Party, Danny McNamara’s The Aftershow in Manchester, and a monthly residency at Camden’s infamous Hawley Arms pub and became MySpace front page featured artists along the way. They live together in a flat in Whitechapel formerly inhabited by Bow Wow Wow, so they claim.

Live, the band are brimming with energy and replete with confidence built on an impressive gigging schedule, they strut, stutter and howl their way through their sets. They have toured with Martha Wainwright, Rumble Strips, Ida Maria and even a trip to the seaside with Peggy Sue and The Pirates as well as numerous headline UK and European shows.

Room Full Of Owls

A return to the Source for the Owls, variously from Alston and Penrith – folk and rustic rock, stoked into an enchanting broth. They’re equally adept at winning hearts supporting the Joy Formidable at the Brickyard, on the Drystone Stage at SolFest, or indeed on this gig with the Brutes.

I Am Spartacus
www.myspace.com/iamspartacus1985
Completing the Carlisle bill is Whitehaven-bred troubadour and Elliott Smith devotee I Am Spartacus, AKA Luke Telford. Effervescent songs with irresistible melodies.

O'Messy Life
www.myspace.com/omessylife
An octet revolving around the winsome lamentations of one David Alexander Christmas D'Arc (Nee Littlefair), O'Messy Life are an ambitious prospect, helping us all wrestle with the heartfelt and despondent within. Given their bulk, expect a joyful logistical nightmare on the Cumberland Arms' stage.

Rob Heron
www.myspace.com/robheronmusic
Lake District emigré Rob Heron has come to be clutched to Newcastle's bosom, a young folk singer touting dextrous finger-picked guitar in his (mostly) self-penned songs. Sometimes solo and sometimes in a trio, it’s not set what form we'll get at this gig. He's definitely good though.

Doors open at 8pm on both nights, to ages 18 and over, and the door tax is either £4 in, or free in if you're a Piscean. ID needed!
